Starting the Fire

one begins to consider projects for next year. While I’m late to the ‘fire’ (so to speak), I’m thoroughly charmed by this play off of Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire” song lyrics below.
Thanks to Alan November’s recent enewsletter update about his Building Learning Communities conference this summer in Boston, I was tipped off to the wonderful work coming out of Mrs. Trudeau’s Online Classroom blog. In particular is her mash-up assignment that takes the 90’s song and asks her students to create the lyrics that would lead up to the beginning of Billy Joel’s song.
She points to a pretty cool visual YouTube play off of the same song that undoubtedly would work with kids (and teachers alike). If I were back in the classroom, I’d definitely begin playing around with this concept with my students:
